Open Our Eyes

"Nobody kills them self because they want to die.
They kill them self because they can't take the pain"
_How to Kill a Rockstar, Tiffanie Debartolo

Depression is an all to familiar hell to me. The world loses it's color, smiling seems foreign.
I've been there.

In fact, when I was asked to write this post by Megan; a girl I went to church with most of my life, I kind of laughed to myself. I feel like I am the last person in the world to talk.

I have my own battle scars, and there are nights when I don't think I'll ever see the sun.

4 in 5 teens that commit suicide show clear warning signs.
That breaks my heart.

I want to be the shoulder to cry on, to help people who are down.
That's not to say I don't have my own problems, but that I know that with a little help, and some good friends, that we can over come them.

I'm here to tell you about a really cool and new organization.

Open Our Eyes is a organization that helps raise suicide prevention awareness.
They are basically a call to arms to look out for one another.
A community of people that want to love the hurting.
You can check them out over at www.knowhowtosavealife.com

I believe that they are also looking for some new interns, so if you have a heart for that, you can send an email to evie@knowhowtosavealife.com

Finally! If you just need someone to vent to, and give her best shot at advice, I am always here for you guys.

  1. That is a horribly sad statistic! Life can be really difficult, especially when you are a teenager...It is wonderful that you are reaching out to others. I, too, have experienced a lot of pain and hurtful situations that I somehow managed to make it out unharmed...that stuff only makes us stronger.

That sounds like an AWESOME organization. I'm definitely going to check it out.

  2. My sister tried to kill herself twice last year and she's suffered from hormone problems and depression for about 4 years now. It's a horrible thing to live with and it needs to be spoken about more often. Good post. x

  3. I'm glad you wrote this post. Not because I'm considering suicide, but it's something all teens need to become aware of.

  4. When I was around 14 or 15, I too considered suicide, I dealt with some pretty dark stuff...Without Jesus I wouldn't be here. He saved my life and opened my eyes.

I am so glad you posted this, it is so important to spread the word about this issue.

Another great site is To Write Love on Her Arms.

    Great post.

  6. It's funny because I would be the last person to think I'd be the Outreach Director of the organization. I've had my deep dark times too. But that's why I'm here... to relate to others who want to talk. <3 xo

  7. The cold winter months in the mid-west don't help much either. I'm glad you're here.

_Adam Duritz

I love hearing things that aren't my own pathetic echoes.
